Demon A Memoir

As Clay grabs a quick dinner after a long day at a publishing company, he see a stranger waving him over to his table. This man convinces Clay to sit down with him, and he proceeds to tell him of events that happened in his past that only Clay would know. The strange man introduces himself as Lucian and tells Clay that he is going to tell him his story and he is going to write it down and publish it. Clay tries to laugh him off, but Lucian insists that he will not be able to resist writing it down, that he will share the secret of what he really is, a demon. Tosca M Lee begins this book, Demon A Memoir , with a bang.

As the story progresses, Clay finds that he is unable to keep from writing Lucian's story, and worse he becomes obsessed with him. He never knows where Lucian will meet him, or in what form. Sometimes a soccer mom, other times a weathered old black man. Each time he finds Clay, Lucian continues his sad story of his one mistake and hope for redemption. He tells the story of Elohim's deep sorrow with the downfall of Lucian and Elohim's love affair with a new race. All Clay knows is that he has to see Lucian again and learn the end to this story.

I loved Tosca's take on this age old story. It gave me a fresh perspective and at times I found myself actually feeling sorry for Lucian. I felt the love of Elohim and his pain. I understood the anger Lucian felt and the extent he would go to, to prevent the passing on of the knowledge of El.

This book made me take a better look at myself and my actions and feelings. Not many books actually give cause to look inward and take stock. I found myself reading long past my bed time wanting to find out if Clay learns the end to the story. I was a little let down with the ending...but understand why it ended the way it did. Over all it was one of my more favorite reads.

I give it a 4 out of 5

Illuminated

August Adams is a treasure hunter of sorts. He hunts down rare books for money, and has done so at the expense of his family. April, his ex-wife, works at the Library of Congress and protects one of the rarest books in history, the Gutenberg Bible. On the flight home from collecting one of the few Gutenberg's, August finds himself inbetween two secret societies that want what is found in the Gutenberg bibles, a secret hidden in the 9 illuminations that are dispersed in the few bibles that were printed.

In the book,
Illuminated by Matt Bronleewe, we watch as August, April, and their son Charlie become intangled in a war between two organizations that have been at odds ever since Gutenberg was alive. August must decipher the illuminations or his wife and child will die, and being trapped on a plane, he has no other option.

This was a book that really held my attention (always a tough feet for someone who has diagnosed themselves as ADD!). I must admit at times it went a little over my head, but not too much as to lose me. It was fast paced and developed the characters in a way that I cared about them and how they ended up.

I give it 4 out of 5.
